Horseshoe WharfRecently Completed
It is nice to do something a little bit different, and on this occasion naganjohnson had the opportunity to do so.
We were invited to redesign the dated entrance area to Horseshoe Wharf, a small complex of smart Thames-side apartments. The aim was to create a new and vibrant entrance space, fresh and exciting but reflecting the quality and value of the riverside flats. However it became apparent early on the project the client, a diverse mix of residents overseen by their management company, was looking for something a little bit different.
A design scheme centered around a location map re-forging a lost link between the old wharf-side warehouse and the Thames redefining its riverside location.
The design created a topographical, three dimensional relief made from 1400 oak pegs of various lengths along the 5 meter wall. This shows the contours of the river basin, with the path of the River Thames depicted in blue pegs. The location of Horseshoe Wharf is indicated by a bright green peg colour placing Horseshoe Wharf firmly ‘on the map’.
Each peg was painted green on the side facing the mirror, using the existing mirror to cleverly create an alternative image of the installation.
